Urban Renewal at Ohio State - my thoughts

Yesterday Urban Meyer was announced as the new head football coach at Ohio State University. Meyer signed a six-year contract for around $4.4 million a year. His previous head coaching stops were at Bowling Green (2 years), Utah (2 years) and Florida (6 years) accumulating a 104-23 record (7-1 in bowl games).

During his time at Florida, he won two national titles and he resigned as Gators coach citing health concerns and desire to spend more time with his family. Meyer takes over a program tainted by an ongoing NCAA investigation, player suspensions and a 6-6 record in 2011.

Black River 49, Manchester 24

Black River made a triumphant return to the OHSAA play-offs defeating visiting Manchester 49-24 last night in Sullivan, Ohio. You can listen to the replay online.

The Pirates, making their first post-season appearance since 2003, used a dominating rushing attack and an opportunistic defense to defeat the Panthers for the second time this season. Black River was victorious over Manchester in week 3 by a score of 29-28. That game Pirates QB Dakota Kuntz passed for a school-record 263 yards and four touchdowns.

Last night, Kuntz wasn't called upon to throw as often for Black River thanks to sophomore running back Andrew Vaughn who ran 23 times for 238 yards and three touchdowns. He was helped by junior Austin Phillips (13-148) who had two scores himself and senior Jake Sexton (4-48) who scored the first Pirate touchdown and later recorded an interception.
